Hawkesbury Living Cancer Trust (HLCT)
Richmond Club Group CEO Ms Kimberley Talbot was the brainchild of Hawkesbury Living Cancer Trust, who recognised patients had to travel considerable distances outside the Hawkesbury district for chemotherapy treatment.
With the full support of the Richmond Club Board, Ms Talbot assembled a team with close community ties to serve as members for the board of this Trust, and commence fundraising with the goal of establishing a chemotherapy unit within Hawkesbury.
The combination of an extremely generous donation by the late Len and Margaret Peel, together with a series of charity race days organised by Founding Trustee Vivienne Leggett, with the collaboration of Trustee Graeme Colless and the local turf industry, resulted in the HLCT attaining its goal of establishing a chemotherapy unit at the Hawkesbury Hospital.
With profound knowledge and expertise in this field, Dr Duncan Guy, Founding Chairman of HLCT, was able to bring together St John of God HealthCare’s Hawkesbury Hospital and the Nepean Cancer Care Centre, to create a four-chair unit. It is run by the centre and supported by the hospital. The Trust continues to pay Nepean Cancer Care Centre an annual amount to ensure the service remains viable.
