Oncology

Richmond Club has had a long association with oncology and cancer care in the region, dating back to the conception of the Hawkesbury Living Cancer Trust in 2007 in order to establish oncology and cancer care services for local residents. It has been identified by the Trust that cancer patients in the region suffer many hardships due to the lack of oncology services as they need to travel outside the district to receive treatment, creating significant mental and financial strain. It was also noted that oncology in the Hawkesbury would alleviate some of the pressure placed on neighbouring cancer care centres at Nepean and Westmead hospitals. The community have clearly voiced their support for oncology in the region through both local forums and their support of numerous fundraising initiatives organised by the Cancer Trust. There have also been a number of notable donations, including $1 million from Len and Margaret Peel and large contributions from other anonymous benefactors. Their contribution has been crucial to the success of the project and full integration of oncology and specialist services into the facility.
